Entitled?

hands holding a pendulum in front of the moon

If you observe yourself and others, the basic entitlement we all assume is feeling good. In fact, when disharmony visits us (as it always will) we quickly seek remedies legal or illegal to feel better. In fact, all addictions are based on the entitlement to feel good. No news flash: Life doesn’t always feel good. Things happen that we wouldn’t happily pick of an events menu. Emotional pain such as loss, loneliness, anxiety and depression head the list that sends us running to Walgreens and CVS for relief. In addition, there is physical pain of all sorts. I’m not a fan of feeling bad, but I’ve discovered that the things we wouldn’t pick off Life’s menu usually contain lessons that lead us to deeper awareness.

Like a Pendulum

Life swings between happiness and sadness, joy and sorrow, love and loss. We live in a world of duality, filled with opposites. At the top of the pendulum is its fulcrum, the non-moving point containing the energy that is expressed as opposing directions at the bottom. What if we are the ones observing the opposites? What if we don’t chase feelings and thoughts and simply remain aware while having various experiences?

To be the observer while we are having an experience may free us from the great disappointment of not being able to hold on to the good and prevent the bad. Faith dictates patience and stillness in the face of the temptation that demands reaction. Responses on the other hand can come from allowing Life to express Itself through us and as us.

With love, Rosanne

The Patina of Aging

By Rosanne Bostonian | August 14, 2024

I was speaking to a friend about his intrigue with “patina” on furniture and building materials. Patina is the signs of weathering that give wood, metal and objects character. Patina is a visible sign of age that can refer to the appearance of something that has become beautiful over time. It’s considered desirable to show that…

For Love of Teaching

By Rosanne Bostonian | September 10, 2023

I remember being in the back of a classroom as a student teacher. I watched the master teacher while looking at the backs of my students. When it was my turn to step up to the podium, it was a shock. They were all looking at me. They were waiting and nothing would happen until…

Religious v. Spiritual

By Rosanne Bostonian | May 23, 2023

I’ve been asked a number of times about the difference between religion and spirituality.  Since there are increasing numbers of people that claim to be spiritual, but not religious, it’s a valid question. The way I think about this is that religion is a road map, a set of directions that keeps us on course,…

That’s the way life is, so that’s the way I am

By Rosanne Bostonian | April 24, 2023

With our big brains and learning capacities, we figure out the way life is. Once we’ve established the way life is, we attribute our feelings, our relationships, and our sensibilities accordingly. There is a surrender to the way life was and it automatically becomes the way life is and will always be.  A simpler way…

Life Living

The “eternal” is at work in the pastures of Florida. A relentless rhythm of Life living itself in every square inch of land, air and tree. The lowing cattle live an eternal existence that has taken place here for centuries. The names on the few street signs reflect the history of the area…SW Florida a…

The Truth

By Rosanne Bostonian | January 10, 2023

We humans have many personal experiences that shape our individual biases, things we think are true. How about differentiating The Truth from my truth, realizing that these are ever so different from each other. The inability to see the difference is a historical problem that is expressed on the international scale between tribes and countries.…

A Terrible Master

By Rosanne Bostonian | January 2, 2023

Have you noticed that you “feel before you think?” The body is wise and intuitive…the mind can be easily fooled. The longer I practice Reiki, (light touch energy healing) I realize that it is a validation of what I’ve known all along. As they say in the East, the mind is a wonderful servant but…

The Snow Grinch

By Rosanne Bostonian | December 14, 2022

I’ve never been a big fan of snow. I don’t ski nor snowboard (God forbid), and the shoveling and travel hazards have been exhausting and scary. On the surface, snow is fraught with trials and tribulations. Walking my dog in the snow has resulted in several butt surfing episodes that are ever more daunting in…

Contact with Earth

By Rosanne Bostonian | November 29, 2022

Since I’ve been doing Reiki practice, I have much more appreciation for feet.  My now famous dog, Toby, looks in puzzlement as I try to negotiate slippery stairs and sidewalks on two feet.  He cocks his head wondering why in Heaven’s name I am a biped.  I can empathize with his puzzlement.  It seems to…

We Aren’t Our Thoughts

By Rosanne Bostonian | November 11, 2022

“The mind is its own place – It can make Hell of Heaven or Heaven of Hell.” John Milton in “Paradise Lost” At some point we have to decide who we are and who we aren’t. The jury is still out on the human mind and its machinations. After all, the body has existed as…
